Tips From The Speed Coaches

Speed Coach Tip #3

From Bill:  The Active Dynamic Warm Up is the foundation of the entire Parisi Speed School training system.  In every session, you as the athlete, should give 100% effort to the warm up.  Attention to detail, doing every repition and staying together as a group are a must.  To some the warm up becomes boring because they have done it so many times, but for those individuals I am sure there is more than one area for them to improve on.  Strive for perfection on every drill, and you will notice that your flexibility, speed, strength and balance will improve.  Just remember if you put in half the effort, you are only going to get half the results.

Speed Coach Tip #2

From Bill:  Remember to finish each drill with a good deceleration or landing position.  These are two of the most important things that you are taught here at the Parisi Speed School.  Not only will the help improve your balance, strength and agility, but they will also help protect you from injuries.  Challenge yourself to use perfect form everytime you perform a deceleration and landing position, and I promise you that you will notice the difference in your improvement.

Speed Coach Tip #1:

From Bill:  Know your definitions and focal points for each session.  These are the building block for all that we do at the Parisi Speed School.  Understanding these will allow you to not only have better training sessions while you are here, but also allow you to work on improving while at home.  For those who do not know them already, I will list them below.

Acceleration:  The ability to reach maximum speed in the the shortest amount of distance and time possible.

4 Focal Points: 45 degree body angle, proper arm action, hips forward, and knee drive forward

Top Speed: The ability to maintain maximum speed for the duration of the sprint, using maximum stride length and maximum stride frequency.

5 Focal Points: Toe up, leg fold, knee high, realease and rip

Change of Direction: The ability to accelerate, decelerate, stop and reaccelerate in any direction without losing speed or balance.

4 Focal Points: Wide base, low center of gravity, strong back, weight on the inside leg and the outside leg at a 45 degree angle

From Bill:  Remember to always finish a drill with a good deceleration or landing position.  These skills are two of the most important things you learn at the Parisi Speed School.  The strength and balance that you develop from doing the deceleration and landing positions carry over into all other aspects of your athletic performance, and most importantly help protect you from injury.  So next time you train challenge yourself to have perfect deceleration or landing position on every drill.
