Today we’re talking about the first phase of learning top end speed. Top end speed occurs once an athlete has accelerated and aims to maintain their speed with proper mechanics.
The lying leg recovery drill is a great way to learn and practice top end speed mechanics. The athlete will crash the calf into the hamstring and strike the heel to the butt as fast as they can. At the same time, the athlete is going to bring the knee up to the block position at a 90-degree angle. When done correctly, leg recovery becomes an automatic response.
