Basketball season is right around the corner and believe it or not, it will be here before we know it. In today’s competitive world, all athletes find themselves competing year-round, which makes training that much more important.
In the off-season, it is crucial for any athlete, no matter the sport, to put in the necessary work to be prepared to make an impression on your coaching staff upon the first practice. Whether you are in middle school or high school, the training benefits that Parisi Sparta provides will provide several benefits as you head into the season.
At this point in the year, many players are not at their peak when it comes to being in great basketball shape, so you need to have decent conditioning along with your skill set. Our basketball classes offer a variety of speed workouts to make sure you show up on day one with a high level of speed and agility.
Court speed is an aspect of a players game that can pay off throughout a game. All athletes need speed, but being able to get up and down the court the quickest can make a big difference in any game. In a sport like basketball, having better speed tests results will not guarantee you an effective player.
Sprinting or moving into your designated position are the two main movements all players will go through during a game while never being stationary. A player is always moving and usually at a high speed. This is where different speed training will come into benefit the overall speed of a player.
Drills such as a side-shuffles, push-up starts, and sprinting from a backpedal will translate well into not only being fast, but having speed on the court.

As important as speed is, agility is just as important. Often, the players that have speed and have the ability to rapidly switch their movement direction going forward, backward, lateral, and vertical movements are the ones that stand out the most.
Training the ability to change direction with minimal deceleration is integrated into all speed classes at Parisi Sparta. We run several exercises that include shuffling in all directions to become more mobile and agile. By choosing exercises that go from front to back, side to side, and movements at different angles, the body is able to go through the three main motions. Some exercise examples include side-shuffles and sprinting from a backpedal motion will help increase one’s agility.
By combining the agility drills we implement in our speed training sessions, we are able to get our basketball athletes quicker with a higher versatility of movement on the court.
Total body power will lead to improved performance on the court. Power is an important aspect to have in one’s game.
Weight training to build strength will provide several benefits such as an increased vertical. It also aids in improving your speed and agility. Power and strength should be developed throughout the entire body. By using our strength-building program and taking our strength classes, our basketball athletes are able to strengthen their legs and upper body with a diverse set of exercises.
Exercises such as plyo push-ups, seated rows, squats, oblique rotations, and much more help target all areas of the body. By focusing on building strength in all areas of the body, an athlete becomes less prone to injury.
Injuries are common in the everyday grind of a basketball season. The good news is with the proper training you can become less prone to the everyday ankle sprains, knee injuries, foot fractures, and other common setbacks in basketball.
As a player gets hurt, fans just see the result but there is much more behind the injury that has a good chance in its contribution. Some possible contributions to injuries include muscle imbalances, cumulative fatigue, or poor posture.
