One of the coolest challenges we have as Parisi coaches is the assignment of making speed training fun. I’m sure other coaches throughout the network have so many up their sleeve.
One game I have added to both the jump starters, total performance kids and my adults classes at POW! (PowGymchicago.com) is called : the cards will tell.
I bought a deck of jumbo playing cards for $9.99. I write anywhere from 4-6 exercises on the board. I lay cards out in piles that correspond to the exercises.
Then, the students flip them to see the number of reps for each round. We go for time so I’m able to move onto other aspects of the curriculum. In the spirit of Steve Leo’s advise always make them run more!!!!! I suggest always including a solid 20,30,40 yard run. So yes! They will pull 10,J,Q,K which is 10 reps. I love it when they pull 10 rounds of 30 yard dashes which is essentially a shuttle run; this gives me a chance to grab coffee !? LOL.
